Grown by Ashley Ratcliff at Ricca Terra in Barmera in the Riverland of SA. ‘Monte’ as it has affectionally become known as in Australia has fine even tannins, and smells like dark cherries and red earth. Ashley is one of the greatest optimists in Australian wine - happy to travel against the tide. He strives for quality, hand picking into half tonne bins and selling to small boutique winemakers to help people see what the Riverland is capable of when varieties that suit the climate and are given the TLC needed to celebrate the lovely red soils over limestone that he has found. An elegant, mouthfilling wine with blueberry fruit and rustic, dusty tannins.
